Remember my decision to put “Indonesian” for the race column on my NRIC five years ago? Apparently that naïvety comes back with a vengeance. Now I am waiting whether I will be classified as “Malay” or “Other” for my HDB application. Foolish, foolish me.

Naivity? Foolish? It is their rigidity that they put such arbitrary classification. Whether you’re ‘favoured’ or ‘unfavoured’ as a result is only a pragmatic concern. The root of the matter is, people should not be classified by race. If I were a Tibertan, I would have problem putting down as a Chinese. As a Hongkie, I have problem putting down as a Chinese too. Secondly, SG is not the centre of the universe, contrary to some people’s illusion, their definition on one’s race is not final or sacred. It is not even important.

also cannot, since the law will automatically acknowledge the husband’s “race”.

anw somehow the debacle could be used for our advantage as well, as yesterday we viewed a unit which can be bought only by non-chinese, and because of this, somehow we managed qualify haha. we didnt like the unit though.
