On the other hand, if to be the Son means to be sent, to be the Father then means to send. If the Word is the spoken Word, then the Father is the one who speaks. The Father is the one who speaks the spoken Word, and the one who begets the enfleshed Word. In that sense we confess that the Son is begotten, and not made. The Father is the one who eternally speaks, and hence eternally begets. And the Son is the one who is eternally spoken, and hence is eternally begotten.
