Bone and flesh

Most of us would be familiar with the phrase ‘bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh’ which Adam said upon looking at Eve (Gen 2.23). Interestingly, a similar phrase was uttered by Laban towards Jacob when he met him for the first time, “Surely you are my bone and my flesh!” (Gen 29.14 — LAI-ITB chose to paraphrase this: “Sesungguhnya engkau sedarah sedaging dengan aku”) Laban has just met his distant cousin for the first time and so it was appropriate for Laban to say such words. So you get the idea how the phrase was used in the ancient Israel era. Indeed, LAI-ITB perhaps gave the correct parallel phrase in Indonesian language: ‘darah daging.’
