This blog was started when I was doing my internship in München in 2006. I had a lot of spare time and I thought I would give blogging a try. A naïve person I was, I wrote my blog in Indonesian hoping that it would be helpful for my fellow Nusantarans. Four years on and now I am more accustomed to express my thought in English and hence this dual language introduction and content. Now I am working in National Cancer Centre Singapore and doing a part-time doctoral study in Nanyang Technological University. My project is on mice MRI. My thesis title, tentatively, is ‘Dynamic Contrast-Enhanced Magnetic Resonance Imaging Studies in Preclinical Settings.’ I worship in a Presbyterian church and am involved in student ministry as well with the Fellowship of Evangelical Students (FES). I like reading books (you could see my personal library here and here and here) and I really enjoy biblical studies. I am heavily influenced by the works and thoughts of N. T. Wright and Karl Barth, and, believe me or not, after these twenty-two-years-and-counting of non-stop formal eduction I still want to pursue a degree in biblical studies. But that’s another story for another day.

By the way, the blog title roughly means ‘Surprised by Grace’ (echoing Lewis’ Surprised by Joy and Wright’s Surprised by Hope), of which I was, and I still am, and I hope I will ever be.

Nama saya Septian Hartono. Lahir di Jakarta, 27 September 1985. Merantau ke Singapura pada tahun 2003 untuk menempuh studi sarjana jurusan teknik Elektro di Nanyang Technological University. Lulus pada bulan Juli 2007 dan sekarang bekerja di National Cancer Centre bidang riset pencitraan CT/MRI untuk mengukur efektifitas terapi anti-angiogenesis untuk kanker. Mulai Januari 2008, melanjutkan studi doktoral paruh waktu di universitas yang sama. Topik penelitian saya adalah pengembangan model matematika untuk mengukur tekanan interstitial kanker.

Minat dan kegiatan saya sehari-hari yang lain: membaca, menulis, berpikir, makan-makan, main PS2 WE, kisah kasih Allah, Kabar Baik, sepakbola, studi Alkitab, kesatuan gereja, kelompok kecil, matematika, sejarah biblika, sejarah gereja, pelayanan mahasiswa, pembangunan masyarakat, isu global, N. T. Wright, tanggung jawab sosial, pendidikan, teologi historika, teologi biblika.

Jadi, secara sederhana, isi blog ini akan mencakup pekerjaan, minat, dan kegiatan sehari-hari saya.
